Korea allows additional purpose for use of 433.795-434.045MHz

The Ministry of Science and ICT of Korea recently updated the “Technical standards for radio equipment for radio stations that can be established without reporting” and allowed additional purpose of “notification” for use of 433.795 ∼434.045MHz.

Now this band is allowed for uses of "Tire air pressure alarm system for automobiles, opening/closing, notification, starting or parking systems of automobiles".

Authority’s notice about the change can be found here:

Changes to conformity assessment regulation in Korea

Korean Authority Radio Research Agency (RRA) recently issued the attached Notice no. 2023-6 bringing changes to the regulation of conformity assessment of broadcasting and communication equipment. According to this Notice, below changes are made:

1. Previously, when a new wireless function is added to wireless equipment that has undergone conformity assessment, a new application had to be made. But now it has been improved to that it can be applied through the change procedure. It means that only the added function should be tested and KC ID of this model won’t be changed.

2. More methods are allowed to display the year and month of manufacture. However, if the year and month of manufacture can’t be easily identified, this information must be separately indicated on the user manual, packaging, internet homepage, etc., or information to prove the year and month of manufacture must be provided.

Korea enforced new requirements to UWB technology applied in portable devices such as smartphones

Ministry of Science and ICT of Korea recently updated the “Technical standards for radio equipment for radio stations that can be established without reporting” with new requirements for UWB technology capable of low-power and ultra-precise sensing to be applied in portable devices such as smartphones for various services.

Wireless devices of wireless facilities for mobile communication and devices communicating with them shall satisfy the following conditions:

- Allowed frequency band: 6 GHz-8.8 GHz

- Do not emit radio waves unless requested by the user

- Automatically stop radio wave emission within 10 seconds if there is no transmission/reception after communication starts

- Wireless devices of wireless facilities for mobile communication shall have a function to stop radio wave emission in aircrafts and ships.

- The device that communicates with a wireless device of wireless facility for mobile communication shall not emit radio waves unless there is a request for

  transmission.

- “Do not use on aircrafts or ships” must be indicated in user manuals, etc.

Other UWB applications are still allowed in 4.2-4.8GHz and 6-10.2GHz.

Korea allows object detection sensors in 70GHz

Ministry of Science and ICT of Korea recently updated the “Technical standards for radio equipment for radio stations that can be established without reporting” allowing object detection sensors in frequency band of 70GHz:

-Allowed frequency band: 76-81GHz

-Power limit: 100mW e.i.r.p.

-Uses in automobiles, aircraft, ships, and railroads are prohibited.

-Conformity assessment requirement: KC registration

Previously, “vehicular radar sensors for collision warning and avoidance” in 76-81GHz was already allowed with different technical requirements. KC certification is required for such equipment.

Changes to conformity assessment regulation in Korea

Korean Authority Radio Research Agency (RRA) recently issued Notice no. 2020-7 bringing changes to the regulation of conformity assessment of broadcasting and communication equipment.

According to this Notice, the below changes are made:

1. In case of removing an RF module (BT, RFID, etc.) or replacing a RF module with a new one having the same RF parameters from an IoT end product, a new application is not required. This change can be approved by a simple variant application without testing. The new module should have the KC test report and KC certificate in order to confirm its parameters.

2. In addition to the printed labeling and e-labeling, compliance information can also be shown by using QR code.

South Korea became the first country in Asia allowing WIFI 6E in 6GHz

Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT) of South Korea published official notifications on October 16 allowing WIFI operations (WIFI 6E) in 6GHz. This makes South Korea the first country in Asia allowing WIFI 6E.

Below are the allowed frequency bands, output power limits and applications for WIFI 6E:

Frequency Band Output power limit Application
5925-6425MHz 25mW Outdoor and Indoor
6085-6425MHz 25mW Built-in wireless devices used in automobiles

Changes to confmormity assessment regulation in Korea

Korean Authority Radio Research Agency (RRA) recently revised the regulation of conformity assessment of broadcasting and communication equipment.

Below are the main changes:

1.      Some types of equipment, which were subject to certification scheme can be approved by registration scheme now:

     - Radio equipment for voice and sound signal transmission

     - Wireless equipment for wireless access system, including wireless LAN that doesn’t require SAR test

     - Radio equipment for wireless data communication system that doesn’t require SAR test

     - Wireless device for mobile identification

     - RFID device in 433MHz and 13.56MHz

     - UWB device

     - Unspecified wireless device in 57-66GHz

As a result, the required technical documents and lead time for approval process will be reduced and approval ID will be “R-R-***-*****”.

2.  All controlled products without conformity label can be imported to Korea if importer can provide stickers of the conformity label for customers to affix it on the products.

South Korea MSIP Certificate ID no. format will be changed

South Korea Authority “National Radio Research Agency” (RRA) announced changes to labelling requirements of MSIP certification on December 4.

For products submitted for approval after December 5, 2017, Certificate ID no. will start with “R” (meaning “Radio Act”) instead of “MSIP” so it won’t be no longer affected by changes of Ministry name under reshuffling government organization.

Both IDs with “MSIP” or “R” are acceptable before June 30, 2018.

Please note that above change DO NOT apply to products submitted for approval before December 5, 2017.

KCC Change of Authority Name and Certificate

On July 1, 2013, Certification body- NRRA (National Radio Research Agency) released Public notification 2013-5 and announced that the RF/EMC/Telecom Authority of Korea (KCC) has been officially renamed as Ministry of Science, ICT & Future Planning (MSIP). With above announcement,  the KCC certificate/registration ID number will be replaced by MSIP as shown below.

Previous: KCC-XXX-XXX-XXXXXXXXXXXXXX
New: MSIP-XXX-XXX-XXXXXXXXXXXXXX

This new structure of MSIP certificate/registration ID No.  will apply to the applications which had not been submitted to MSIP before 30th June, 2013.
If the application is already being processed, the manufacturer has already printed the label in advance. The manufacturer still can use KCC ID during the transition period. ( from 1st July ~30th Sep, 2013).
For products, which were previously approved under the KCC ID No. and manufactured before 30th June, 2013, KCC ID No. can still be used without any change.

But if previously approved products are manufactured after July 1, 2013, MSIP label should be used after 1st October, 2013.
