Qatar’s ICT enacts new type approval regulations

Qatar’s regulatory authority, ICT, announces their Type Approval regulations published in 2011 are now in force and the following changes will now implemented.

In addition to authorized importers, foreign manufacturers can now also apply for type approval. Once type approved, any authorized importer can be allowed to import the product into Qatar.

The ICT type approval application procedure will be simplified for those products that have the Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, UAE or CE certification, but will be a little more complex for those that don’t have them. In the latter case, ICT will accept test report issued by a recognized test lab and the application time may take a longer than simplified procedure (up to 15 working days to process).

Certificate validity will be life-time as of June 1, eliminating the renewal procedure and label requirements will be enforced.
