PTA published Regulatory Framework for SRD and IoT Services.


Recently, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has published a new regulatory framework for Short Range Devices (SRD) and Terrestrial Internet of Things (IoT) Services. The regulatory framework issue date is February 14, 2022.

 

 

The main updates are:


1- The PTA allows now the full 5GHz bands for WiFi with details of the usage (Indoor/Outdoor) and output power (ERIP), but previously the PTA allows only the band 5725-5875MHz only.


2- The regulation listed the Ultra-wideband technology (UWB) bands that can be used in Pakistan, but previously the PTA need to get advice from the spectrum authority (FAB), and then evaluate the documents to approve the application.


3- The regulation has listed Radio Frequency Spectrum for Long Range IoT (LPWAN) bands with technical and license requirements.

PTA published a new type approval regulation

 

On September 13, 2021, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has published the official Type Approval Technical Standard Regulation which came into force on January 25, 2021.

 

 

Further details and the major changes mentioned in the regulation:

 

-      The PTA has added IEC 62368 safety standard to the adopted technical standards. However, the test reports of standards 60065 and 60950 are also accepted currently.

 

-      The PTA has added the Ultra-Wide Band (UWB) devices to the list of the products that require type approval.

 

-      In the list of terminal equipment exempted from type approval has been changed. Specifically, the following has been deleted in this regulation which would remove the exemption on these products and bring them into the scope of the products requires approval:

 

   1. Tablet PC with Wifi only Functionality (Non - Sim based devices).

 

   2. Smart Watches with Bluetooth / Wi-fi Functionality only (Without SIM or Tracking).

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) new label requirements.


On December 1, 2018, the  Pakistan PTA has issued gazette S.R.O 1492/18 to enforce the label requirements.

              XXXXX/YYYY

 

XXXXX/YYYY means: The type approval number (TAC No)


 

The new label will be required for all new import shipments of already approved products before December 1, 2018, as well as all products approved after this date. There is no transitional period. The new label requirement does not include any limits for the color or the font size.

Pakistan/ PTA has issued a new type approval regulation

 

On December 19, 2018, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a new type approval regulation.

The main change is that the WiFi, Bluetooth, SRD, NFC, RFID, Machine to Machine (M2M), IoT devices are required to get the type approval from now on.

Pakistan PTA issued a new type approval regulations

 

On January 15, 2018, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a new type approval regulations. The new updates includes the list of the products requires approval and the new list of the exempted products. Below are the main changes in the requirements:

 

- The PTA deletes the “Vehicle Security Devices” from the list of the products requires approval.

 

- The PTA adds one more item to the new list of the exempted products with “Low powered/ short range key less entry system/ remote controls on noninterference basis”

 

- The PTA includes “Satellite Terminal Equipment” in the list of the products requires approval.

Standalone RFID and NFC have been exempted from type approval in Pakistan


It has recently been confirmed by Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) that, all the standalone RFID and NFC have been exempted from type approval.

Pakistan PTA announced a new WiFi requirements

 

On April 04, 2016 – the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), published a new notification S.R.O 287(I) 2016 for WiFi devices usage. According to the notification, the bands 2400-2483.5MHz and 5725-5875MHz are allowed for indoor use with max e.i.r.p of 30dBm.

Bluetooth equipment has been exempted from type approval in Pakistan. 


It has recently been confirmed by Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) that Bluetooth modules or all devices with Bluetooth function only have been exempted from type approval.

Pakistan- PTA announced to implement type approval for mobile phone on January 06, 2014 

 

On January 06, 2014 – the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), started the type approval process for mobile phones. Under this regulation (Section 29 of Pakistan Telecommunication Re-Organization Act, 1996), all manufacturers, authorized importers, and distributors of cellular mobile phones are obligated to obtain type approval of Cellular Mobile Phones from PTA.
