Following in Barack Obama’s Footsteps: a Trip to Myanmar

In December of 2012, WoWi visited Posts and Telecommunications Department (PTD) in Myanmar. PTD is responsible for effective allocation for radio frequency spectrum and registration of radio frequency assignments under the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT).

Current rules and regulations for telecommunication sector in Myanmar are Myanmar Wireless Telegraph Act and Myanmar Telegraph Act. The new Communication Law, which includes telecommunication apparatus license/procedures are already sent to Parliament through Cabinet by MCIT to be reviewed and approved.  The details are not been disclosed.

Under current Myanmar Wireless Telegraph Act, the importation of communications equipment using in services should have the prior permission by the Communication Policy Supervising Working Committee (CPSWC), which was formed by the government purposing to be standardized using in communication products and the security safeguard since 1988.

To apply import permit from the Ministry of Commerce, the importer must apply the permission from CPSWC and registration from PTD for communication equipments.
