Hong Kong Office of the Communication Authority (OFCA) recently allowed WLAN devices to use band of 5925-6425 MHz while publishing a new Performance Specification HKCA 1081, which defines the technical requirement as below:


1. The allowable frequency range is 5925 – 6425 MHz


2. For WiFi 6E devices, Access Points is under the compulsory certification scheme and requires compulsory labelling; however, for client devices, such as smartphones, tablets, etc., certification and labelling are voluntary.


3. The different maximum output power limits toward operating locations are indicated below:Indoor: 24 dBm EIRPOutdoor: 14 dBm EIRP.


4. The apparatus shall meet the technical requirements specified in the standard EN 303 687 “6 GHz WAS/RLAN; Harmonized Standard for access to radio spectrum” 1 published by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (“ETSI”).

Radiocommunications devices operating in 60GHz and short range radar devices operating in 79GHz are allowed for use in Hong Kong

 

Office of the Communication Authority of Hong Kong (OFCA) recently published 2 technical standards for “Radiocommunications Apparatus operating in the 60GHz Band” and “Short Range Radar equipment operating in the 79GHz Band”.

 

Above mentioned equipment are officially allowed for use in Hong Kong and can be voluntarily type approved.

Hong Kong Communications Authority restructured as of April 1, 2012

 

Under the Communication Authority Ordinance ( Cap. 616) on 1 April, 2012,  Communications Authority (CA), a unified regulatory body for broadcasting and telecommunications sectors, and its executive branch, Office of the Communications Authority (OFCA) of Hong Kong, have been established to take over the duties and authorities of the Telecommunication Authority (TA) and its executive branch, Office of the Telecommunications Authority (OFTA).

At the same time, the format of equipment label has also been altered to reflect these new changes.
