Home arrow-rootMexico - IFT responsibilities transferred to CRT under ATDT

On July 16, 2025, the President of Mexico published the new Telecommunications and Broadcasting Law in the Diario Oficial de la Federación (DOF). This legislation replaces the previous Federal Telecommunications and Broadcasting Law and came into force on July 17, 2025.

The responsibilities of the Instituto Federal de Telecomunicaciones (IFT) is gradually transferred to two newly created bodies:

1. Comisión Reguladora en Telecomunicaciones (CRT)

2. Agencia de Transformación Digital y Telecomunicaciones (ATDT)

On October 17, 2025, IFT announced that it had ceased operations. Following this, CRT began operating. Although CRT is now in charge, it remains in a transitional phase. At this stage, many operational details/procedures/staffs remain undefined. It is unclear whether the new regulations IFT-016-2024 and IFT-017-2023 will be enforced as scheduled. The lead time of applications could be delayed.

We will continue to monitor developments closely and share updates as soon as more information becomes available.
